Fuente Fuente OpusX Forbidden X Cigars

Opus X Forbidden X is the line Arturo Fuente calls "the evolution of the Fuente Fuente Opus X." In Arturo Fuente's words, it "contains the rarest selections of tobacco born from Chateau de la Fuente," and Carlito Fuente ages the blend "in Forbidden barrels in a secret area of our beloved factory." It is made at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and, as halfwheel notes, wears a black band where the classic OpusX wears red.

About Fuente Fuente OpusX Forbidden X Cigars

In late 2011, halfwheel reported, Fuente shipped Fuente Fuente OpusX ForbiddenX 13 in six sizes, made in honor of the company's upcoming 100th anniversary. The six returned in 2018 as a release for Tobacconists' Association of America retailers. In December 2020 Fuente shipped four new sizes, the Deseos D'Amor, El Beso Prohibido, Pasion D'Amor and Amor Sensual, and those four are the vitolas Arturo Fuente lists for Forbidden X today. The Forbidden X name also appears on special releases: The OpusX Story, a set of four Forbidden X cigars distributed by Prometheus, and Templo de Oro, which reached retailers in December 2025.

Cigar Aficionado rated the El Beso Prohibido 91 points in December 2023 and the Amor Sensual 92 in October 2024, both medium-full, and found "steady notes of gingerbread, molasses, brown sugar and cinnamon" in the Amor Sensual. Like every Opus X, Forbidden X is allocated: Arturo Fuente decides how many boxes each authorized retailer receives. Sun of a Gun is an authorized Arturo Fuente retailer.

The OpusX Story

The OpusX Story pairs four Forbidden X cigars, a Robusto, a Double Robusto and two Toros, with the book 20 Years of Fuente Fuente OpusX, an interview with Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. When Cigar Aficionado covered the fall 2017 release, the cigars in it had been rolled in 2006, and Carlito Fuente had aged the tobaccos for a time in barrels that once held Calvados, the apple brandy of Normandy. Each set came individually numbered with a certificate of authenticity. We sell it complete in its travel humidor.

What to pour with Forbidden X

Fuente publishes no pairing, so these are our house suggestions from the bar. Cigar Aficionado rated the El Beso Prohibido and Amor Sensual medium-full and found molasses and brown sugar in the Amor Sensual, so reach for a caramel-forward bourbon or a rye. For Templo de Oro, which Carlito Fuente says he made creamier, a smooth Irish whiskey or a light Speyside. More in the bourbon and cigar pairing guide.

Common questions

What sizes does Forbidden X come in? Arturo Fuente lists four, each 20 to a box: El Beso Prohibido (5¾ x 52), Deseos D'Amor (5¼ x 50), Pasion D'Amor (6⅛ x 48) and Amor Sensual (6⅛ x 54). Templo de Oro adds four more sizes under the ForbiddenX band; see our Templo de Oro page.

What is Opus X Forbidden 13? ForbiddenX 13 is the name Fuente used in late 2011, when it shipped six sizes in honor of the company's upcoming 100th anniversary: Nacimiento 1912, Heart of the Bull 1957, Destiny 1980, Keeper of the Flame 2013, God's Whisper 1924 and Torch Bearer 2012, halfwheel reported. The six returned in 2018 for Tobacconists' Association of America retailers, and halfwheel also lists the four sizes that shipped in December 2020 under the ForbiddenX 13 name.

Is Templo de Oro a Forbidden X? Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. announced it as the Forbidden X Templo de Oro, Cigar Coop reported, Cigar Aficionado calls it the ForbiddenX Templo de Oro, and each cigar wears the ForbiddenX main band. halfwheel describes it as the latest OpusX sub-brand, and Arturo Fuente's Forbidden X page does not list it, so we show it both here and on its own page.

Is The OpusX Story a Forbidden X? Yes. Cigar Aficionado lists the four cigars in The OpusX Story as Fuente Fuente Forbidden X: a Robusto, a Double Robusto and two Toros.

How is Forbidden X different from regular Opus X? Arturo Fuente says Carlito ages the blend in Forbidden barrels, and in 2017, writing about the Forbidden X cigars in The OpusX Story, Cigar Aficionado called the blend "much like a core OpusX smoke, save for one important distinction": tobaccos aged for a time in barrels that once held Calvados. Arturo Fuente does not say whether today's four vitolas are aged the same way. The band is black rather than OpusX red. halfwheel found the 2011 ForbiddenX 13 wrappers darker and less red than regular OpusX, and the wrapper on its December 2020 Deseos D'Amor pretty close to regular OpusX.

How much is Forbidden X? Current prices for every size are in the price table above.

Can I buy a single? Yes. The Amor Sensual and the Templo de Oro #1, #8 and #13 are sold by the single; The OpusX Story is sold complete, four cigars and the book in a travel humidor. $9.99 flat shipping, free on orders of $125 or more.
